You didn't outgrow recess. Recess was taken from you.
Now it's back — coach-led games in NYC parks with 20 people who are done pretending they don't want to play. Exercise that doesn't suck.
Why Recess
You don't pick the game. We do. Maybe it's kickball. Maybe it's capture the flag. Maybe it's something you haven't played since the 4th grade. The not-knowing is half the fun.
No awkward icebreakers. No forced small talk. You just... play a game together. Turns out sprinting after someone in tag is a better way to make friends than standing around at a bar.
You're not counting reps. You're not watching a clock. You're running, dodging, throwing, laughing — and then the hour's up and you forgot you were exercising.
How it works
Pick a day that works. Weekday evenings at 6:30 PM or weekend mornings at 10 AM. Central Park, Prospect Park, and more.
That's the hard part. We handle everything else — equipment, teams, rules, the whole thing.
Your coach picks the game. You play it. You get sweaty. You high-five strangers. You go home feeling like a kid again.
“I miss gym class but I hate the gym, and rec leagues want me to show up every Tuesday for 12 weeks with 9 friends I don't have.”
FAQ
Absolutely not. These are playground games, not tryouts. If you can jog slowly and throw a ball in the general direction of another human, you're overqualified.
Most people do. That's the point. Teams get picked at the session, so everyone's in the same boat. It's way less awkward than you're imagining.
We're not telling you. Mystery is part of the deal. We post a vague hint on our Instagram the morning of (like “today's a throwing day”), but you won't know the exact game until your coach blows the whistle.
We cancel with 24-hour notice and you get a full credit. We're not making you play flag football in a thunderstorm.
Athletic clothes, sneakers you can run in, water. We bring everything else. Think: what you'd wear to gym class, minus the uniform your mom bought at Kmart.
We're launching soon. Drop your email and we'll let you know when the first sessions go live — plus a discount for being early.
